And we got to 2 cup finals after spending how much again???

Its simple, you wanna compete in any competition either European or domestic then you need steady investment year after year.

Or we could just turn into Everton and just be happy that we finished above them at the end of the season.

I wouldn't expect an answer to that.

What difference does it make how much we spend? We went to wembley 3 times last year, did anybody really think we were going to win the league? Some absolute clowns on here so it wouldn't surprise me. People think there accountants dont go to any games then moan despite winning a trophy. We exist to 'make the people happy' and win trophies. Last year under kenny ticked both boxes for me. Playing shakhtar away on a Wednesday night doesn't compare to beating the blue shite in a semi at wembley

just a thought. if 1.8m is generated at anfield on a matchday 44k crowd. average ticket £42. if j.henry says they need 70% increase, that's £71, 3m revenue.

if they built a bigger stadium 70,000 and charge £42, that'll give the same revenue.

a 60k stadium will be £50 developed or new. 70k will be £42, the same as today's price - but they have got to get the extra 28k in, so in the past if you had 10 - 15k being turned away from the old postal applications etc, that's still 11k short.

a developed anfield will charge £60.. even more people will be priced out of the game... or a new stadium will price people out.

£60 or £42.. bring back some of the people who have been priced out or price even more people out?

More like £53.229m. But then that was on the back of a previous year where we made an £8m profit. It's a hefty amount above what we generated from sales, but it did win our first silverware in a few years.

----

Johnsouthwales - the problem with the figures you're using is the cost of building or redeveloping is missing. A 70k stadium is going to be massively more expensive than a 60k because of the cost to develop the transportation infrastructure needed to get planning permission to go above 60k.

As a really, really rough and ready example, let's take the cost of just a 60k and play with it a bit.

Cost to build: £250m
Assuming that we're going to take out a loan to pay for it all, we're going to have to pay off not only the £250m but also the interest on it too (£12.5m at 5%?).

We get c.£41m a year at Anfield. Add on the cost of paying for the new stadium. That's what the new stadium has to make just to make sense financially until it's paid for.

The problem is that £898 x 60000 = £53.88m. That's barely sufficient to cover the additional cost of just the interest on a £250m loan!

Hence the need for a naming rights deal of significant size to make any sense of building a new stadium, and the likelihood that ticket price rises would have to happen. A 33% increase in revenue per seat is beginning to get there. Whether that translates to more corporates (so fewer tickets to matchgoing fans but at a better price for those who do get them) or whether that's a straight jump up to £60 tickets all round, or a combination of the two would be the choice they'd have to make.

Arsenal hammered the corporate market, and their ticket prices still rocketed up because doing both meant that they could pay for the stadium quicker. Unlikely those ticket prices will come down when it is paid for though.

It is simple really - you provide around 75,000 seats or more - just like Madrid, Barca, the Milan clubs, Bayern, and the scum do.

It's not fffin rocket science!

The waiting list for season tickets is huge - players will come to play in front of 75,000 Liverpool fans, and they will be playing in front of a packed out ground.

It's time to STOP thinking small and start going for it.

Otherwise we will be falling further behind year on year.

Why does Britains most successful club STILL only have a Puny 45,000 seats...it beggars belief!

I'm not sure we could fill a 60/70,000 seater regardless of what the ST waiting list says. There's been plenty of games played in front of below capacity crowds this season. It's catch 22 in a way. A successful team will attract support, but to be a success these days there has to be substantial investment.

I'm getting pretty near to my limit for the ST price ( I've been saying that for years now), and any big hikes will probably see off a lot of people.

Not that simple. How much will it cost and how do you pay for it?
