He'd already started light training two days ago, according to Klopp in his pre-Southampton press conference, so he should be okay for Sunday.

FIFA don't seem to have clarified it for us yet, no surprises there really. Too risky to have an ineligible player in the squad and then have a pts deduction or whatever.

Surely it will be clear by midweek whether Cameroon are objecting or not, if not then play him against Plymouth and either Swansea/Saints.

It won't be "clear" until the end of the tournament. Cameroon are just simply going to refuse to clarify the 'retirement' situation, effectively turning it into a ban.

We should be able to claim compensation if it gets silly, but it still means Matip won't play.

Utter ****ing nonsense. Why does a national team have any control over whether a player plays for his club team or not?

Taken from TIA: Article 5 to which FIFA refer states the following: “A player who has been called up by his association for one of its representative teams is, unless otherwise agreed by the relevant association, not entitled to play for the club with which he is registered during the period for which he has been released or should have been released pursuant to the provisions of this annexe, plus an additional period of five days.”
He's out. And you're out, too. And I don't think I'm in, either. No gang!

Complete madness, that African nations is pure dirt and should be played in June regardless of the heat as they are well used to it.

    The Africans Lev.

He's been a big miss, even yesterday that Jose cnut was highlighting our lack of aerial dominant players.
No Matip, no Sahko, Joe Gomez could have been an option I guess.

If Matip said he was retired from international football before the Cameroons announced their squad, then there is nothing to discuss.
The FA and FIFA should get off their arses and get it sorted, why this should take weeks to do this, is beyond a joke.
Even if he decided to retire after being name to the squad, do they own him, has he sold his soul to them? he has done them a favour in the past, they should remember that he was born in Germany. I say play him and if the Cameroons and FIFA get their nickers in a twist the Yanks can send over a bus load of lawyers, they are good at litigation. It is illegal to stop a person from plying their trade and earning a living.

June isn't warmer than now in east africa for example. They have their hottest period now. June, July and August is winter.
