There's certain players that have the 'class' required and it shows in the way they position themselves, control, lay-off the ball etc.
This guy is the real deal!

So it seems that in the era of fickle fans craving 'instant success' and becoming more and more increasingly impatiently vocal when they dont get it, some also crave new foreign signings [coming back from injury no less too] to instantly hit the ground running otherwise they label them as a waste of money.
Give me a fucking break.

Aquilani is;
A progressive passer.
Raw talent.
Is well thought of by Francesco Totti who knows a thing or two about football.
Has showed a great urge to get to grips with the English language (saw a recent interview and he has already got a lot of basic phrases down).
Has only started 2 games after a long injury.
Played in snow tonight in a league which has a different pace to the Serie A.
Took a free-kick from 25 yards ("Gerrard range"-Gerrard obviously respects the guy's ability, as shown by the fact he didn't take it himself).
Knows when to pass backward for safety.
Moves forward when he passes the ball sideways, thus advancing the attack and creating space.
Keeps an eye on the player he's just passed to in case they need support due to opponents pressing.
Is developing chemistry with Steven Gerrard, who is the main feeder of balls to Torres.
And you're unhappy after 2 matches?
Judge him after 15-20 matches mate, no disrespect, but he needs time to learn;
Chemistry with his team-mates
To play in Rafa's system
To adapt to a totally different league.
Rather than be disappointed with what we haven't yet seen, I've been very impressed with what we HAVE seen and the times I've watched Roma matches, I've been impressed.
Also, he isn't Alonso. He's a different player.
Give him time.

He's been hit and miss, but considering he's only played two games I'll take the hits as a bonus at this stage and forgive the misses. He's come into a team that have been low on results and confidence and needs to settle in.
We've won every league game that he's started as well, so he can't be that bad.

Sod off man.
We've had 2 back to back wins for the first time since September, he's played in both and some halfwit creates a thread like this. What's happened, is Rafa 'OK for a week' now? Bore off. Now's a time to be positive. A good away win against a good Villa side with a good home record. Every player - and Rafa - deserves a huge pat on the back.
Did feel for Martin O'Neill tho lol!

We have to give him time. He has been injured and has only just started playing for a new team in a much faster/more physical league.
Yes he did not play that well tonight but considering the above and the conditions I think some are being a bit harsh/quick to judge, especially when there are some others who have no such reasons/excuses and are still playing poorly.

Damn right.
Don't think this thread would have arisen if some people weren't still pining after Alonso, who is, at the end of the day, gone.
Two starts. Two wins. Progressive passer of the ball, quality player. Mentioned it in my previous post, but Gerrard trusted him to take a direct free kick tonight and I for one thinks that speaks volumes about what Stevie thinks of Alberto's ability.

ok he misplaced a few passes but cut the guy some slack. There was a lot of interchanging of passes - momentum - in the middle of the park. I hate to say it but throw in Masch and we get the dread Bermuda triangle of momentum - Lucas - Masch - Kuyt! I'd like to see Lucas - Aquilani - Yossi as first choice with perhaps a resurgent Reira (who I think, with Kuyt, has been the most patchy player this season).

thought alberto played well given his second full game, the bad conditions and the tempo of the game which he would not be used to. i liked the way he was helping lucas during the game. that was a big difference for me: lucas looked to me a better player in the two games alongside aquilani than he has done with masch. liked that he looked for positive link up play (alberto) and moved into more attacking zones. he looked very inventive at times. sometimes it looked the pace of the game was about to overwhelm him but lucas helped him out well a few times.
he's played in two games, we've won and not conceded a goal.

I take this thread is about aquaman. The guy came on with 14 mins left to play. For me aqua performance today, well I can't really question it cos the whole team was struggling to find a pass. So I can't really single out aqualani. At the moment I'm thinking that there is a lack of creatively intelligent players. We played a left back as left wing and a striker as right wing. I really think we need genuine wingers who can play the position

He said that in his opinion Aquilani has looked shit so far and in 6 months he'll possilby be moved on. I agree that he has looked shit so far and tbh, if he does continue to play like that, he probably will be moved on...or not, because I think Rafa knows he wouldnt survive another Keane. But if Aquilani doesnt improve I think that will be one too many for Rafa, if his time isnt already up. Rafa can have no excuses. Can't belive u are judging a player in this manner after such little game time. Especially one who has been injured up until now and has also still got to get to grips with the pace of the English game. I myself haven't been overly impressed, but the same sentiments go towards most of the team at the mo. I will however give him tine to show me what he can do before judging him.
I seem to remember Pires being pretty wank when he first arrived. Drogba and henry weren't exactly world class in their first seasons either.

The only genuine winger we have is riera who is injured, and benayoun who didn't start. How the f are suppose to create anything. Benayoun should have started for me.
So, by your thesis, you believe you need wingers to create chances?
Hmmm. How then did Chelsea manage to create so many chances with a narrow diamond midfield of Mikel, Lampard, Essien and Ballack?

Alberto Aquilani?
Well, judging by how quickly we signed him from Roma after Alonso's departure I can only assume that the signing was planned and that the delay of Alonso's sale was to hike the price up as much as possible.
Aquilani was signed for £17m rising to a possible £20.5m if I remember correctly.
Though he was bought as a replacement for Alonso it was in no way meant to be a like for like replacement. Benitez said at his purchase that he was much more mobile than Alonso. This suggested he wouldn't have the passing range of Alonso but that he would make up for it by passing and moving forward (which he has shown glimpses of in his few appearances thus far), we were also told he was bought with an injury and that they reviewed extensively that he wasn't injury prone. After recovering (albeit slowly) from his original injury he had a slight calf strain. One thing we can be disapointed with his slow rehabilitation but he has been victim of some heavy challenges so far and hasn't crumbled like biscuits.
We mustn't forget he has started 3 games for us. 2 of which in the league we won, with clean sheets. The other was a dead rubber in the Champs League which on balance we deserved to win.
To say he looks off pace is probably not solely because of his lack of familiarity with the League but also a lack of fitness. His lack of fitness should be addressed.
We have seen good glimpses and its harsh to judge the bloke yet. We will see.

Youve answered your own question there, you cant definitively say much about him based on what little game time he's got.
Also id lay off the personal abuse if i were you or you'll not last long.
But it's always the same people starting the abuse. Finley's Dad, SwissLFC ... It's all they seem to do. Youngster ... you can add them to your ignore list if you like. Finley's dad for one neve comes up with anything other much other than insults.

Hmmm, pleb, simple, nob, idiot, tool, tit and plank are normally my favourites. I suppose you need tough skin to take them though
It's 'Finlay's Dad' actually and I only really save those insults for the people who spout nonsensical bollocks or I believe have very little knowledge of the game. You are on that list though in case you are wondering ;)

Writing off AA at this stage is akin to writing off the new Dr based on his thirty second introduction.

thought he played well last night.
i think not having gerrard in the side is helping him, be it down to being over awed, desperate to impress, or just not being allowed to play his natural game i don't know. but he looks a lot better without gerrard on the pitch.
hope he can develop a good partnership when gerrard comes back
