Froch was unconvincing and was lucky to get the verdict IMO.
How he can keep goading Calzaghe when he fights as poorly as this is beyond me.
What a punch by that Abraham v Jermain Taylor with literaly seconds remaining though.
Back to Froch and I'm a little bit in two minds whether to get behind him or not.
Yes , he's British but he comes across as not having the talent to match his arrogance.
On a side note does any give David Haye a chance against that giant of a man Valuev in a couple of weeks?

I think that Carl Froch is seriously overestimated.

I worry about David Haye's chin and even moreso about his lack of stamina. He doesn't ever seem to have more than 6/7 rounds in him.

Personally I'm a big fan with Froch, his calling out of Calzaghe after Taylor might have seemed a bit crass but I've got no problem with him calling him out. Boxers are always doing it, some do it more eloquently than others but it's the nature of the beast.

In the run up to the last fight there was one thing Froch said that really made me warm to him more. Dirrell was giving it the large about how he was too quick, too slick and too good a boxer for Froch, how he was going to outclass him. embarrass him etc, and how he thought Froch wasn't worthy of being a world champion etc. Froch's reply was "Well he can say all that, but I'm just going to hit him really hard in the face, then we'll see what he's saying" - Priceless, what more do you want from a fighter?

I wouldn't say he's over-rated, mainly because not many people see to rate him. In fact I would say he's one of the few boxers who's achievments outweigh the hype. Worry about him long-term with predilection for defending with his chin but as a spectacle there is no denying that he is great to watch.

Whilst watching the coverage of his Taylor fight over in the states the US commentators were talking about his record and said (in excitable US aports commentator accent) "He is, what is known in the UK as a haaard man", sums him up perfectly, not the best boxer but the heart of a lion and very very gritty.

And yet a former undisputed middleweight Champion like Jermain Taylor has all the tools, but no heart.

It was a tough fight for Froch, these yanks are well schooled, and inevitably pretty quick. Styles make fights, and Froch vs Dirrell was indeed grit vs speed. I'm from the old camp, where i believe that you have to convincingly beat the champion to win the belt. That didn't happen. It was as Froch stated an attempted smash and grab. Dirrell is clearly very talented and quick, but he doesn't excite, just run around the ring apron a lot and doesn't engage.

Froch will have easier fights against arguably better oposition, as most of these guys won't have the speed to trouble him. Sometimes you come up against a fighter who gives you nightmares no matter how good you are. Ali had that with Norton & Frazier.

Haye and Valuev is fascinating. A shot 44year old Evander Holyfield should have got a decision vs Valuev a year ago, if it weren't for some creative judgeing. On that basis, I think haye can do it. Good feet, good movement, in and out slashing quick jabs and combinations. Make Valuev move and go to his body (probably about the right height, really!).

This November is just fucking great. Haye vs Valuev on the 7th, Paquiao vs Cotto on the 14th, and Kessler vs Ward on the 21st.

Bring it on.

Froch is out of order for calling Calzaghe out - when a fighter has retired then thats it as far as i'm concerned - can understand why he does it, but still no need.

As for Haye v Valuev - its madness Haye is as short as 4/9 with some firms to win - the size difference is incredible. If Valuev catches him I worry about Haye's ability to take it ... should make for an interesting fight, but at that price he's unbackable.

Completely agree with where'sheggem (you know your boxing lad) valuev was very luck against Holyfield. I'd fancy Haye vs Chagaev or Holyfield but this Russian scares me. Look at the size of him! I could honestly imagine weighing him in as hard as I could in the face and it just having no impact.

Having spectacularly mis-called Hatton-Pacquiao I'm going to make some predictions

Valuev
Cotto
Kessler - and him to win th super 6

Really wish Haye well. Just think he needs to bang him out and can't see it happening. Also a few questions about Haye punching himself out as he did with Thompson

Cotto- is the best fighter in the world. Can do it all, his fight with Clottey showed what a warrior he is. Also think that despite being class pacman is not quite the fighter at welter a lot think he is. De la Hoya was a joke and Hatton has been in decline since Tsyzu. Cotto quick, and too strong.

Did anyone see the Rhodes v Moore on friday?

some contest that, and fair play to rhodes for staying with him, looked like it could be very one sided in the opening rounds - thrilling fight and good to see first class sportsmanship at the end by both.

as for predictions in Nov -

Valuev - KO
Manny - Decision
Kessler - Decision
