HI guys,

I am going to be flying into liverpool over the next two weeks. I'm only there for perhaps a night. Does anyone know what is the best way to go from London to Liverpool and also where would be a good place to stay close to the Anfield?

I want to do the stadium tour and look around Liverpool if that's possible.

Thanks.

Train up to Liverpool. Stay in the city centre as it is only 10 mins in a taxi or 15 in a bus to Anfield.

Virgin trains or thetrainline, try to get an advance - knowing which times you want to travel. Otherwise it ain't cheap
Takes about 3 1/2 hours on a good run

It'll be Virgin. Go on their site and look for the Cheap Fare Finder, and it willl show you the cheapest train to get on each day. If you're booking enough in advance, are travelling after 9 and avoid Mondays it shouldn't be too bad. I'm going the other way in 2 weeks and it's £33 return, and that's a Saturday-Monday trip.

There are loads of hotels. If you've got some cash try the Crown Plaza as it's on the river, has a gym and, if you're lucky, has a Liver bird view. If not then try the Premier Inn at the Ablert Dock. Again, on the river, ten minute walk into town.

I've stayed at the malmaisson, good if you've got a bit to spend, or alternatively the premier inn or holiday inn exp on the dock. I stayed in the new Jury's opposite the arena a few weeks ago, brand new and good value, especially if you get a river / dock view

I wasn't aware our former reserve team coach had such an honour...

Nelson hotel right outside Lime St Station. Not used it for a couple of years but when I did it had a 24 hour bar for residents.

hey guys.. this is all great info!.. will be very helpful for me.

It's morning now here in NZ and i'm off to work soon. Will be finalising my trip today. I got a conference in Barcelona and then I'm off to Liverpool.

Never been to Europe before and I'm have been a liverpool fan for a long long time. It's really exciting to be able to go and stay a day or two in Liverpool.

I will definitely check out the sites you recommended.

Thanks so much for this!

Hi guys,

Just a question.. does anyone know how far it is from John Lennon Airport to the city?

I will be in Liverpool on the 15th and the 16th. I am not sure if I should get the late flight from Liverpool To Barcelona on the 16th or catch the 7am flight from Liverpool to Barcelona on the 17th.

I guess if anyone knows accommodation that is close to the airport then it would be really helpful for me.

Thanks guys.

There's a few - major chains - holiday Inn etc. It's about 20 mins on the train from Lime Street to the airport (Liverpool South Parkway)

I've never worked out where the train station by John Lennon is. I always get the bus, and that takes about forty minutes.

It's not, that's the problem. It's in Garston basically, then you have to get the 80 to the airport. It's fucking rodiculous. If they're going to promote it as a rail link to the airport they should have a shuttle bus on that is straight there and back, no pissing about stoppping everywhere via under the bridge.

Ic.. so it will be better for me to take the night flight to barcelona I guess.

Cuz if i fly at 7am then I would have to be at the airport by 5am and I take it, it would be a bit difficult or expensive to go from the city to John Lennon airport around that time right?

Are you guys that's replying me in Liverpool?

Be about £15 ish in a private hire taxi from town I think. Public transport at that time in the morning would be a pain.
