Finally got hold of an emulator for the Commodore 64 and loaded up one of my old favourites, International Karate. The music was the bees knees back in the day.
Still just as addicted to it as I was 20+ years ago.
Anyone else played a retro game recently?

I played the original DOOM on my PC the other day. :D
And to think at the time I thought the graphics were great.

Lemon64 is a great site for C64 games.
http://www.lemon64.com/
Been looking for Lucasarts games (Monkey Island etc.) to download and play on a mobile phone (not an iPhone though). Much more suited to a mobile phone than trying to play the latest FIFA on the move !
I've heard of an emulator called ScummVM (http://www.scummvm.org/) - has anyone used it ??

I go through spells of playing Elite, even now.
That was way ahead of its time. I remember shaking with excitement when I bought the original in '85 - enclosed in the beautiful glossy black box was some kind of weird multi-lens. Upon loading, a load of random black and white blocks would appear on the screen. You had to hold the fantastical lens up to the TV at a specified distance from the screen, and said blocks would magically merge together to give you a code number - which you had to then enter to enable you to play.
Where's the fun in anti-copyright stuff now, eh?

Elite was a classic. Came out first for the BBC didn't it?
Remember waiting for it to come out on the C64.
I remember there were long passages of doing nothing but travelling and then suddenly getting the shit shot out of you from nowhere.
It was a bloody hard game!

One of my faves! Spent hours and hours on it, determined to get to Elite status but for some reason never got past 'deadly'.
Even used the hacks to get onto the thargoids (sp) as they were supposed to get you more points to boost your ranking.
Did you manage to get to Elite status?

Sam give Paradroid and Uridium a go on the C64.
On a PC note i have been playing Duke Nukem 3D, still a great game.(helps if you add the texture patch to improve the graphics)

Tapes or "diskettes" ??
I used to have a C64 with the tapedeck, and there was always that long load time (10 minutes or so!) and then the godawful realisation that something had gone awry as the tape ran all the way to the end and stopped, and no game loaded up.
Bloody tapes... !!
Still - I loved "Cricket International" (http://uk.gamespot.com/pages/image_viewer/boxshot.php?pid=573173&popup=1)
- £1.99 very well spent !

It was great to buy great games for £1.99, but even better to have my Uncle copy all of his for free ;)

Ah, Batman The Movie - possibly the finest film-made-into-game for the C64.
Knocking the Joker off the roof at the end was very satisfying !

Some great classics in there. Did you ever play 'Everyone's a Wally'? I got so close to finishing that. Then there was Frank Bruno's Boxing and Bruce Lee.
Which you can download off the net from www.classic-retro-games.com
Glock: they've also got Elite that you can play on Windows Pcs.

Long hours and no life. These were the days before I discovered girls y'see.
Never ever got the better of the Thargoids though. Bloody ridiculous. You could destroy about 30 or 40 but they'd just keep reproducing. Energy bombs merely granted you temporary reprieve.

The Summer/Winter games series were good but my personal favourite was Calafornia Games.

so many classic games available, paradroid was one of my favourites. anyone remember raid over moscow, it was a good game once you figured out how to get the bloody planes out of the hangar. ghostbusters was awesome too.
the old cassette deck, i have memories of always twisting a screwdriver in a little hole to adjust the way it loaded, hours and hours of tediousness but it was all good at the time.

Uridium, fastastic game, will never ever forget it. Another classic, on the Amiga, Impossible Mission and the ominious voice cackling, 'Stay a While, Stay for Ever'. Brilliant.

Yep, but not as bad as Kick Off 2 on the Amiga... went through so many.
Tried various Competition Pro/Zipsticks etc. as well, but the QSII was my weapon of choice really.

QS's were a bunch of beefy Joysticks (oooh er misus) and then some, I had one of those zipsticks and loved it. Kick Off 2 was class. It was not as "Accessable" as Sensible Soccer but because the ball was not "Tied" to your feet, it was pure joy when you scored a good goal, and the fact you could save it in that day and age was Boss. There used to be a "Goal of the Month" compeitition in one of the Magazines that was around at the time.
By the way is that Kingsbury NW London where you live? If so thats just down the road from me. :D

Cheers Sam, - I had a good hour on that Spectrum site before work cottoned on and blocked it... :(
Gah! Might have to do some work now.
Had any game made by 'Imagine' free at the time (82-84) and thought they were all the peak of gaming.
Arkanoid 2 for the Amiga was years of entertainment too, as was stuff like Hexen and Duke Nukem.
