Bugger. Someone at my kid's school has tested positive for swine flu. My wife just rang to tell me.
If another kids tests positive then shut the school for two weeks!
The headmaster reckons the school is open as normal tomorrow. I expect there'll be a few absentees

Anyone subscribe to the theory that it's worth catching this thing? If it does come back stronger at the end of the year, surely anyone who's caught it will have developed some immunity to it...

The kids have all gone back in today as though nothing has happened. I'm sure they'll shut the school though. The last school that got it in Birmingham had a further 33 cases.

they're right to shut down the school, why would you want to put your kids health at risk, it's as if you want them to catch the bloody disease

I don't know Nev but reading from the outside I would imagine it's like he's more miffed about the fact that his kids won't be in their normal routine and he will have to change his plans for that - than actually wanting his kids to pick up a disease that has killed hundreds (???) in Mexico.
Could be wrong like...

Yeah that's right, I'm petrified my kids will catch the disease and come down with horrendous mild flu like symptoms.
For those comedically challenged....I was merely expressing a tongue in cheek frustration at having two kids off school for a week, going stir crazy.
It doesn't mean I am a heartless soul who wants my kids to catch a potentially deadly disease.
Better?

I bought 5 treatments of my own Tamiflu - very expensive but I did it as a precaution for my kids and family. And not for now but for the potential upswing in the winter.

You know that antivirals only reduce symptoms, and therefore reduce likelihood of onward transmission. They aren't an antidote or cure. I'm sure you know that. :)

Its killed over two hundred people world wide and nearly all of them have been from the squallers of mexico & america, the regular flu kills over 250,000per year worldwide but no one is shutting down schools for this, calling it a pandemic or starting the mass production of vaccines by companies owned by the henry kissingers of this world, something a bit fishy their me thinks

It's because this is a new strain of flu. The "regular" flu is treatable and usually only kills the elderly and very young children (ie, people whose immune systems aren't that great). So most people decided to be cautious rather than just blow it off. But of course the media grabs hold of it and it becomes mass hysteria and people making it a bigger deal than it is. If you're cautious and aware, then chances are you'll be fine.
