Apart from loving Liverpool Football Club I have no direct connection with those who lost their lives, lost family, lost friends and lost futures... I was 7 years old and recall seeing the events unfold on our old block tv in the corner of the sitting room. I was in my Liverpool kit and couldn’t understand why the match was being stopped. Why people were on the pitch. It wasn’t until many years later that I realised the depth of hurt and tragedy that unfolded that day in Sheffield. I’ve been going to games since I was in my pram, stood on terraces with my dad and become lost in crowds at the turnstiles. Every time I walk into a stadium from the pre-Sky era I shudder and think of that day when those innocent fans were doing exactly as I am, walking into the ground to see a game, to escape from reality for a couple of hours. They didn’t deserve their fate, the families didn’t deserve it. God Bless them all and let their families get the justice they need, the closure. You’ll Never Walk Alone.
