I live about 10 miles away from Hillsborough, as a lifelong fan of LFC I went along this afternoon to pay my respects to the 96 at Hillsborough. I laid my LFC scarf at the Hillsborouh memorial there.
What struck me while I was silently stood there reading the messages was how football sticks together in times of sadness or injustice. Whilst I was stood there in my LFC shirt a Sheffield United fan laid a Sheffield United shirt and it simply read
"To the 96, Football remembers. YNWA"
As I stood there filling up reading his message of support he came over to me and simply smiled and patted me on the shoulder, no words were needed.
I didn't lose anyone at Hillsborough and I wasn't thankfully at the game on that fateful day, I don't pretend to understand how the victims families feel or the survivors for that matter but standing there today it was like football was united for a few minutes, ememies forgotten, it was about something more.
I walked around to the Leppings lane stand and a shiver swept through me looking at those gates. Everytime I go to Anfield and see the eternal flame and see those 96 names I think of men, women & children who died following the club they loved and the anger & sense of injustice still felt to this day.
My wife and her family all come from Liverpool and they tell me stories of how a minibus went from their local pub with 12 lads on and only 4 returned, I can't even begin to imagine the fear, panic and loss of that day.
The fight for justice must always go on and the 96 will not have died in vain, eveytime we sit safely in a football stadium today we should be reminded why. English football is 20 years too late as usual.

When Red Matt, Hindsy and I did the 92 club tour last April we happened to be at Hillsborough on the 15th. It was entirely coincidental but we laid some flowers down and read some of the cards that lay around. For some reason I just couldn't read all of them.

Dont know how to convey my feelings, I see rebirth at the club, we are the real deal again as a team, fighting for the title in April, then this week I dont give a shite if we go on to win it or not, I feel so fucking sad, dont have words, love the club but I just dont know what is the best way to remember all of them .. 96 of us who never came home, so helpless

After 20 years is does not get any better, I can still see those fans, I can still hear the screams see the tears, fans all around, lots on the ground, many walking, not knowing where to walk to, the panic, the hero of lots of the fans who where doing there best trying to help, and Im sure saved many lives.
I remember being on my knees looking up at the sky and asking God "WHY".
The Blackburn game, I was singing YNWA,with tears running down my face, I remember thinking you daft sod, but I counld not help it.
I was not going to the ground on Wed. but after the Blackburn game, I feel as if I have to go, it is going to be a sad time, and Im sure there will be a lot more tears from me, but I will be very glad to stand with all the other Liverpool fans.
Im sure there will be 96 Liverpool fans looking down on us singing YNWA with us.
I will never forget them, Liverpool will never forget them.

brilliant posts ...... Very moving and touching..,, was in tears when Warnock was bringing the floral tribute to the Kop.... Don't think he was too far away from tears himself...
Gone but Never Ever will they be forgotten.

Just read my cousin's comment on Facebook, he's from Huyton and a massive, massive Blue and he just said this morning "remembering the 96 who died and the pain we still all feel 20 years on." which I thought was nice.

I'm not from Liverpool nor am I English, but I am a Liverpool fan and I remember Hillsborough unfolding live on television. I was only eight, but I remember my Dad crying, first time I'd ever seen him cry.
Have been reading the Hillsborough tribute written by Brian Reade in todays Irish Mirror with a lump in my throat. There are pictures of some of the dead, including Steven Gerrards 10 year old cousin. When I look at the wee boy in that picture, there's a family resemblance there and it's all so sad and shocking. I can still barely believe what happened, especially the aftermath and the cover-up.
It would be such a fitting tribute to the 96 and their families if we fought back tonight and got a result at Stamford Bridge.
Reading about the families and their ongoing fight for justice makes me so so proud to be a fan of Liverpool.
You'll Never Walk Alone.

They set off for Hillsborough on that bright April day,
Dreaming of Wembley and glory in May,
A red v blue final they couldn’t want more,
Never realizing what faith had in store.
We'll never forget them their suffering and pain,
The innocent victims of Leppings lane,
Friends and relations will forever mourn,
Their 96 loved ones that will never come home.
All over the country the news it was spread,
There’s trouble in Sheffield there's 96 dead,
They were suppose to protect them and keep them safe at the game,
But they failed in their duty, they must shoulder that blame.
We'll never forget them their suffering and pain,
The innocent victims of leppings lane,
Friends and relations will forever mourn,
Their 96 loved ones that will never come home.
It’s only them scousers, they’re at it again
Leopards don’t change their spots, you’ve heard the old saying
They’re all robbers and pickpockets when all’s said and done
If you believe what you read in that rag called the s*n
We'll never forget them their suffering and pain,
The innocent victims of leppings lane,
Friends and relations will forever mourn,
Their 96 loved ones that will never come home
Each year we think of them and we read out their names
We’ll always remember as long as red men remain
Our flame will burn brightly outside Shankley’s gates
The Kop will sing justice no matter how long it takes
