I don't think we need anymore strikers so it's highly unlikely. Looking back I always thought Heskey had the ability but partly because of how Houllier used him he was unable to make the final step up and deliver quality consistently, he's a player I think rafa could have got the very best out of which could have potentially helped Heskey raise himself to the required level, but I think that ship has long sailed now.

I do like heskey and was sad to see him go but cannot see him coming
back unless he was guranteed first team football which will never
happen
Would be a good sub to bring on but cannot really see who he could
replace in our starting line up to warrant a first team place week in week out

Heskey is too inconsistent to play for Liverpool any more
We've got Kuyt who throws himself around and pulls opposition players out of position. Heskey would actually be more useful as an attacking midfield player, because he's not prolific but gets into useful positions to lay on the pass for the striker
He was bombed out ultimately because he lost his end product after going through a purple patch shortly after he joined us.
I do think he was made an unfair scapegoat for some of our results in Ged's final season though.

I thought this was going to be about Bruno Cheyrou.
He is the next Zidane you know

Agreed.
As Sam said, he was too inconsistant;
I always felt that he had all the attributes to be an amazing striker but if suffered from dips in confidence that all too often had a definate detrimental effect to his play.
Hell, I'd prefer we sign this Bruno rather than Heskey at the moment:-

Same here, hehe. :p If Rafa could turn him into a decent player then Rafa would be even more God-like in my eyes. As for Emo though, I find him very easy to root for. He's done a fine job at getting back into the England fold despite playing for a club like Wigan. Why not sign Heskey on a free? Every striker who's ever played alongside him loves him and was very popular amongst the squad during his time as a Red.

Apparently Rafa felt we were hasty in getting rid of Heskey when he first came here, but I doubt either would see many benefits in a return. Anyway, we've already got a hard working, unselfish striker, who doesn't score many goals or mind playing on the wing. ;)

I was not a fan of this guy. Although this may have as much to do with him being effectively brought into replace Robbie Fowler, as his own ability.
Never really took to him, and didn't shed a single tear when he left.

I was wondering how long till this rumour came about.
Heskey is a Liverpool fan and always gave 100% (not Riise's version of it) and you could see how much it meant for him to wear the shirt.
We already have one Kuyt though, I don't think we need another.

I think with Crouch being sold, we're missing that player that can come of the bench to unsettle the opposition defence by his mere presence. Heskey seems to fit that mould but I still think Crouch (now) is a better player at doing that than Heskey. I mean I don't recall the best centre backs in the world (liKe Maldini, Nesta, Terry etc) saying they hated playing against Heskey. They did say that with respect to Crouch though. We sold Crouch so why would we buy Heskey again? Also, didn't Heskey have a problem with staying on his feet for us ;-)
During his time at Anfield in the Houllier tenure I respected his contribution overall for Liverpool (one particular season he was outsatnding alongside Owen), but Bruno/Ivanhoe/Emile is part of our history now.
A player that we should take a hard look at is Progreynak (spelling?) of Zenit St Petersburg because I believe he could well be better than Crouch and Heskey in the role described as well as being able to chip in with a fair number of goals. Won't happen though as we have Kuyt, Keane, Torres, Ngog, Nemeth etc.

Much as I do not ever want Heskey to come back to Liverpool, it would be worth it, just for the above reason. We would not have to play him.

I agree with that, always said that Crouch had the attributes to not only bring his own skill set to the team, but alter the entire style of play ( when things are not working )
Unfortunatly with players like that, they then tend to want to play every game ( and who can blame them )
It would be nice to see what Ngog can do given a regular sub apperance, as he has both the stature and pace to bring somthing new from the bench.
---------
Kuyt
Torres
Keane
Ngog
------------ Babel ?? to some degree
and then as definate possibilites
Nemeth
Pacheco
Finally a couple that have a lesser chance, but are still there
Lindfield
Brouwer
------------------------------------
Thats plenty of forwards for now, although we should always be on the look out for players that are better, I just do not see it as one of our weaker areas.

In 2003, who would have thought that in 5 years time Liverpool would be considering buying back one of its strikeforce, either Michael Owen or Emile Heskey? And who would have guessed Heskey? And who would have thought that in 5 years time only one would be playing for England and it wouldn't be Owen. Bizarre.

And not only be back in the England team, but instead of being continually jeered as he used to be, actually be considered to be one of England's more important players.

Heskey said he left Liverpool after Houllier shifted him out to the right.
Which is probably what Benitez would do with him.
That or the bench and so soon after regaining his England place I can't see it happening.

Allegedly he wants Champions League football, so this one may be a goer. Rumour has it that he was upset with Houllier in his final 2 seasons or so, because Houllier kept playing him even though he had a couple of niggling injuries that he couldn't get over without resting them, and he used to be in agony after every match. I'm actually warming to the idea of having him as an option on the bench, but he would be way down the pecking order.

I suppose if he really does want to play in the Champions League again, then at 30 this is his only option. He'd be a better free and 4th choice striker than Voronin.

Voronin scored 4/5 League goals last year, despite it being his first year in England and him being injured for a large part of it.
What on earth makes us think that Heskey would get that many goals, going by current and past form?

The fact that Heskey's lowest ever goals total in a season for us was 9 goals, leads me to believe he may well surpass Voronin's 4/5. ;)

Let me get this straight. I believe this is how it goes... any player whose contract expires in the summer is allowed to sign a contract with any club this January but isn't allowed to move until the summer transfer window opens. Correct? If we do sign Heskey, it won't be for free as Bruce would be stupid not to get a decent fee for him as many teams are after Big Emo. I think I heard Bruce say that he won't stand in Heskey's way if he wants to leave but I don't think he'll let him go for free as Pearce did with Fowler.

There will be a few clubs interesting in Heskey now that he's picked up form and regained his England place
But the lad has said he wants to play CL football. I can't see Utd or Chelsea going in for him. Arsenal have Adebayor, van Persie and Eduardo. If we came calling, he'd choose us over any other club in the prem.
I think Rafa is looking for short term impact in the league right now. Heskey would help to provide this and even if he helped us to maintain a title challenge, I don't think there'd be too many complaints if we forked out up to £3m (as has been rumoured) for him in the Jan transfer window.

NO!
Makes no sense with selling Crouch and then getting Heskey. As I said yesterday you need to replace what you have with better quality players and replace top drawer players as and when age/injury dictates.
You do NOT replace someone like Crouch with Heskey who in my opinion is a poor mans Crouch.
He was here once and did not have enough to push us on to the title/CL playing with Owen who loves him. We have 1 world class striker, another decent striker the best midfielder in the world who can play v.well behind a front man such as Torres or even Keane and the likes of Nemeth and Ngog who is supposed to be in the mould of a more skilful Heskey.
The areas that need strengthening is the wings and full back positions. We do not need to waste any more money that we need to fund better quality signings, especially with the two jokers in charge.

Makes no odds, at his very worst Heskey still scored around twice as many as Voronin, who happened to play in 27 games for us last season (so it's not like he never really played). Heskey would be a handy option to have on the bench imo, and there are far worse players we could get for nothing, so I don't reckon we would have anything to grumble about if it happens.
