I know there is another must not see film thread, but this one relates specifically to sports films...what are the best/worst you've seen.
I loved Escape to Victory & spent virtually the entire summer holidays trying to perfect a Pele-esque overhead kick - it tends to get slated by a lot of people though. Coach Carter I thought was pretty good too.
Those I didn't like - Tin Cup and Wimbledon top the list.
Special mention to Up & Under because Samantha Janus has her kit off in the shower ;)

Mike Basset England Manager is the funniest sport film I have ever seen. They got that spot on from the crying north eastern lad who had the world at his feet to the fact England need to rely on other sides to qualify.
Brilliant.
Welcome to the German Institute of Football Science.
Computer voice: "Pele, Maradona, Mark Lawrenson."
MB: "Mark Lawrenson?!"
German Scientist: "We ran out of funding."

When Saturday Comes starring a late thirties Sean Bean was hilarious for all the wrong reasons.
I'd have to agree on Any Given Sunday.Top film and Cameron Diaz makes such a convincing bitch.
Raging Bull has to be the best though even though there is only about ten minutes of actual boxing in it.

The Replacements has to be the worst of the lot, by some margin. Tin Cup would also be in the running, I suppose.
Actually, I can think of lots of rubbish sports films. Not that many good ones come immediately to mind.

Goal - Newcastle a big club HAHAHAHAHA
I liked that "Green Street" though. Although seeing a little hobbit scrapping in the streets was a little hard to believe.

When We Were Kings.
Head and shoulders, easily the best film ever made about any sport.
You owe it to yourself to watch it, and realise just what an incredible, incredible man Muhammed Ali is.

I know there aren't too many baseball fans here but there have been some great baseball movies:
The Natural
Bull Durham
Field of Dreams
Eight Men Out
Bad News Bears (original w/ Walter Matthau - not Billy Bob Thornton)
Other Sports:
North Dallas Forty
Caddyshack
North Wales Red

Caddyshack is one of my favourite films of all time. There are so many quotable lines in that film.
"This is one of the worst looking hats I ever saw. With one of these I bet you get a free bowl of soup.Looks good on you though."-Rodney Dangerfield.:D:D:D

Some fine films been mentioned here:
Caddyshack
Gregory's girl
Coach Carter
Major League
Raging Bull (not one I would have thought of as I don't think of it as a sports movie, but on reflection I guess it could be)
A couple of Dennis Quaid movies I liked but I can't remember the names. One was about baseball, a hasbeen suddenly rediscovers he can pitch again and the other was about overcoming racism through sport (basketball)
Diablo I agree that Ali was an incredible man but I felt the movie could have been better.

Great choice but if you like ice hockey, watch "Maurice Richard (The Rocket)". Not a funny movie but overall my favourite sports movie.
