The new season starts on sunday, stupid question but is anyone watching it?

I feel ashamed but i have only started to love the sport because of Lewis Hamilton. In the past there was not much of a point in watching it unless you are not British because you cant exactly rely on Jenson Button

I have a good feeling about Lewis this year, as everyone else does. Just hope the hype & publicity doesnt go to his head.

Anyway just thought i would start a thread seing as no one else has.

Come on Hamilton!

F1 is shit.

Any sport that has regressed as far as F1 has, with stopping to change tires being the most eventful period in terms of race positioning, is doomed.

They need to get it back to basics, where driver skills was paramount. That will never happen unfortunately, because of the big companies involved in running and sponsoring teams.

I think F1 today is an insult to the sport as it used to be.

Just my opinion of course :)

sort of agree N.O., having grown up with such magical drivers such as Senna, Prost, Mansell and the likes its a crying shame looking at nowadays F1. The sheer arbitrariness of the FIA is what pisses me off the most. That said I'm still very much into it if only for a nice sunday's nap although you have to say it's gotten far more interesting these last couple of years and I also very much welcome the getting rid of the traction control.
Couldn't argue with anyone who says MotoGP its where its really at when it comes to racing, but I just never got into it.

Yeah, I can even remember James Hunt driving. THAT was F1. Mansell, Prost and Senna had great battles too.

I can kind of watch it if it's on on a Sunday, but I really couldn't care less who wins. They're all so bland. It didn't help with that twat Schumacher strolling around with a Ferrari clearly years ahead of all the opposition.

Bike racing is more exciting, definitely. Just watching some of the 250 races for example, is packed with more action than a dozen F1 races.

F1 is a spectacle, a circus travelling the globe. Barely a sport anymore.

Having said that, I don't want to hijack the thread for those of you that are F1 fans :)

Didn't Alain Prost suggest reversing the grid positions round? Slowest starts at the front, quickest at the back. I think this sounds like a great idea.

It was Patrick Head's suggestion.

what stops the top cars deliberately coming last in qualifying? It would be like those slow races we had a school

EDIT: I know, he meant the grid is based on championship position, not qualifying. I guess qualifying would be redundant then.

Just started reading "The Life of Senna" actually.

Don't mind F1 when the MOTOGP/WSBK's not on.;)

Ahem.
I will look forward to the arrogant little gobshite Lewis Hamilton winning sweet fuck all again. He is the Cristiano Ronaldo of motorsport as far as Im concerned.

Although, I will give him credit by saying last season was the most fascinating (and eventually, satisfying) to follow in years.

Gonna be interesting to see how Alonso performs in the Renault, if he is as good a driver as he thinks he is.

And of course the pressure is firmly on Kimmi to keep up his success.

Hopefully Massa finds some consistency this year.

come on the Ferrari's again. should be a good battle between kimi and hamilton this year.

I agree its a little bit boring when they were dominating, but would you be bothered if liverpool were dominating the league for many years?? i dont think so!!

Hamilton got pole then the powers that be in F1 won't like that as they are so ferrari biased its unbeleaveable that anyone else wins a race ;)

Bit harse on the lad there, hes been with Maclaren for years and now hes got his chance, still reckon he and the team blew the championship last year with the race in china, what is it with this country, when someone starts doing well for themselves people start having a go? the lad has worked hard to get where he is,if he was shite then fair enough but he has proved he can cut it,so lets see what he can come up with this season.Being truthfull I stopped watching after Senna was killed, that fucker schumacher did for me cheating twat, so like a breath of fresh air in comes Hamilton, given the other British hopefulls the best of a bad lot, haven't seen the race yet, know who won,but will watch later.Kovlainen looked good last year so will give him a good run this season,by the way i hate ferrari like i hate chelski.

Did anyone else just see that interview with Hamilton and Kovelainen?

Is it me or was that the most blatantly scripted and forced "friendly chat" that has ever been broadcast. Shameful Alonso bashing too. For fucks sake, does Hamilton have to pander to these cunts so much? Just get on with driving!

I've got to say that without traction control it has made for better viewing.

Brundle was waffling on about this but remember JC, every single driver out there would have to go through numerous formulas during their early racing careers where you don't have driver aids, so i think you'll find most of them are relishing this change in the rules and the notion that we'll see more action/crashes due to their expulsion is a little mis-guided imo (although Melbourne wasn't perhaps the best example:D). We'll see over the next few months I guess.

I am not British - but the glory boy image of Hamilton build up by your press is nothing short of pathetic. I couldnt care less if he was British, Nigerian or Chinese, for a talented driver in a superb car, its such a pity he whinges and moans - and lacks respect for other drivers as much as he does.
I dont support anyone in F1, I enjoy the sport. Such a pity there are so many twats in it.

If you dont support anyone, surely you must fancy someone to win!! its like watching a game of footy between two teams that you dont support or any sport that comes on you end up wanting one team to win for some obscure reason.

F1 has always been a click so to speak, most of it revolving around the precious ferrari,we will see how Hamilton gets on this season before judging him too harsely, not saying i'm a fan of his at all,it was good to see a new face come in and shake it up a bit,he should of won the championship last season no doubt but blew it in china for me.

Look, Hamilton is a good driver, and he has generated a bit more interest in the sport as well as spicing things up, which is fantastic. Its his attitude I dont like. I wont go as far as blaming him for releasing his own book after 6 months of being in the public eye..

I just enjoy the racing, the cars. I only became a consistent follower of the sport when I went to see a couple of teams test about a decade ago now..That blew me away.
If I sympathise with any driver it would be Fisichella, and to a lesser extent Massa.
Either way, should be an interesting season ;)
