Mine changes all the time, but at the moment its gotta be Daniel Day-Lewis and Laura Dern (for Inland Empire alone).

Like I say its a bit of a flavour of the month thing. There are others, such as Al Pacino, that I think are immense but I have to go with whats going on lately.

Of the current generation Christian Bale is way ahead of anyone.
As for actresses I don't really have a favourite tbh.

On current i would have to agree, or Ledger.
The one actor that get's me is Daniel Day Lewis. he is almost a recluse when it comes to film making ,one every so many years but when he does he usually up for so many awards and guarenteed a powerful performance.
A remarkable talent.

May be a bit obvious, but Jonny Depp hardy ever makes a bad film.Even if the film isn't all that hot,his performance is usually above board.

I'd go for Maggie Gyllenhaal for actress, even though she was in Stranger Than Fiction, which was terrible and I'll here no more about it.

if the film had gotten anywhere close to the book it would have never got a certificate...

I always thought Bale was a strange choice as Pat Bateman, he didn't seem anything like I had imagined him when I first read the book

Bale performance as a Psycho on the brink of complete melt down is mesmerising and also very funny.
But like Mozzaretti said if they became to faithful to the book it would never of been released.
One of the best books I have ever read based on a film is "Fright Night", the book was fucking awesome.
But you could also compare "The Two Towers", that was written in two parts, but Jackson had to turn that into one film which he did amazingly well considering that section of Lord of the Rings was one of the main reasons why the film has taken so long to be made as a lot of people describe "The Lords of the Rings" the unfilmable book.

Fair enough, but you're missing something special in the first two. The third is worth a watch just for Pacino's acting.

So does that mean you've never watched Donnie Brasco, Goodfellas or Married To the Mob?

That last one may or may not have been a joke.
