I was driving through Leeds this morning when i was pulled over by a policeman by the side of the road. It was because customs and excise were doing tests on fuel. I had my diesel checked and to my absolute horror the fuel showed a very slight sign of red diesel. My vehicle was immediately seized where i had to pay £500 to get it back.
Firstly i have only had my 4x4 a short time and i have only used diesel bought from the supermarket. Can anyone give me any advice on how i can recoup my £500 as it is totally unfair that i should have had to pay £500 for a previous owners crime. Any advice would be greatly appreciated,
thanks glenn

That sounds pretty unfair. Were you able to prove you had only owned the vehicle a short time? Doubt it will help though, but is very harsh if you have done nothing wrong.

You will needdocumentation on when you bought your vehicle and fuel reciepts tp rove where you bought your fuel from.
I doubt you will claim your £500 back, but I am guessing Tesco was the supermarket you got it from.

red diesel can stay in your tank for months (after refuelling several times) apparently.

They were not interested mate they were only doing there jobs. I have a right of appeal which i am now going to persue. £500 there and then or they would seize the vehicle and extra costs incurred for recovery etc. Pretty gutted mate

I have some receipts but i will have fuel charges on my bank statement. With regards to the supermarket it is Tesco that i use most, why do you say that mate?

I work for "Shell" and the amount of customers I have moaning about Tesco's fuel is unbelievable.

Haven't the police got anything better to do with their time?! They should be more worried about drink-fucking-driving than fuel!
Saw a fella the other day weaving in and out of traffic with a can of Special Brew in his hand... needless to say we called the police and he was caught further up the road.

No fucking way mate. Shell is a franchise and only the owner get's rich, and that person ain't me the only reason I work there is because of my kids. Trust me it is the worst job ever and would not promtoe Shell in any way or form. The fact is I was just explain why I thought the supermarket he used was Tesco as most of there customers have come to shell, only because it's around the corner.
Trust me the uniform sucks, the pay sucks and I work the graveyard shift.
The security door does'nt work and thowner won't pay for a new one, she fucking argued the fact when the minimum wage went up.

Unfortunately there’s nothing productive I can add to this thread.
Hope you get it sorted though mate. Sounds harsh to say the least.

If you can prove you only have the vehicle a few weeks you may have a case. Red diesel can stay in the tank for months even if you wait until the tank is nearly empty and refill it.
