View Full Version : Did you ever keep a diary??
ohdear
7th March 2008, 11:18 PM
I did.
I was a big fan of Adrian Mole when I was a youngster, and I kept one mainly because of that. And they say gangster rap is a bad influence
It was hidden in the desk in my bedroom,to much bother to open the lid as I had a portable television on top of it,it was a great hiding place for a few things.Copies of the Sunday Sport were in there too.
It's a really fascinating read actually. It's like reading someone else's,even though I kept writing in it,periodically,up until about six/seven years ago.
Some of it is a bit of a downer if I'm honest, but most of it has some memories I had completly forgotten about, had me in stiches, but the best stuff is about girls. Some of it,I'm afraid to say,is poetry.
It rhyme's though.

I kept one when i was very young but it was crap.I actually found one about 2 years ago and wa suprised at how lame the things in life at the time where.Definately not Adrian Mole material although when i was at school we where given a sort of mini bible from the Gideons which i read every night, but then i was going thru my "we are going to be attacked by the russians " or will a tidal wave come across the north sea and kill us all phase

I'm thinking about keeping one again to be honest.
I told one of my friends to keep one after he got depressed when his dad died,as I knew what it had done for me,and it helped him no end.
It's such a good read, for me only of course, that I'm thinking that I would love to read something similar again in my old age.
Better than photo's in many ways.

Some mates and I kept one recalling various dates we'd been on years ago. Often disasterous ones. May still have it knocking about my Mum's house somewhere.

Yes I did keep a diary for a few years but I went back and read what i had written and soon realised just how sad and pathetic my life sounded from the pages. I thought I was not going to have some relative reading this shite when I am dead so I burnt them.
ohdear
7th March 2008, 11:54 PM
You burnt them!!!!!?.
They must have been bad.
My two best friends are from school. Not a bad word about them in it,but it would be embarrassing,so they will never get to read it.
My dad found it once and asked about Madeline though.Fucking poem:o.

But do you not think its better to have the memories stored in your head as they always look tame when reading them i find.

Well these are things I had either forgotten about or hadn't thought about in years,so for me,definitely not.I really enjoyed reading about them again.
It really put me into the frame of mind I was in at the time.Fifteen/twenty years or so later you can see what you would do or feel differently.
Like I mentioned,it can also be cathartic.I felt a lot better after writing things down.It was like an inky therapist.

No diaries for me, I did want to be in a band, write lyrics and be a guitar hero and all that, but no actual outpourings onto foolscap. I think I'm just far too lazy.
I did write one poem only once and I remember it to this day, its actually not that bad. No I'm not going to share it with a bunch of virtual strangers but I am still quite proud of it. But tbhen I've been out tonight and am full of booze, shock horror ;):D

I am guessing that Seth in particuler is up way past his bed time so (with out sounding condesending) your diaries and poems are full of birds, wanking and other teenage angst's. For the younger generation wait until you have your heart broken or you realise that less then 1% of people have thier dreams come true. Then you will need a diary!

Five, everybody in the car so come on let´s ride...
...A little bit of Monica in my life
A little bit of Erica by my side
A little bit of Rita is all I need
A little bit of Tina is what I see

Jump up and down go and move it all around
Shake your head to the sound
Put your hands on the ground
Take one step left and one step right
One to the front and one to the side
Clap your hands once and clap your hands twice
And if it looks like this then you're doing it right
This could be world famous song if we continue!

*another adrian mole inspired diary keeper*
I actually kept a diary for quite a few years actually - throughout most of my teens sadly.
As you can imagine, its made up of getting pissed, girls and Liverpool.
Quite horrifying to see how Ive documented my sexual progress over the years.
Needless to say once I settled down with a girl and moved in together, that was the end of my diary writing.
