View Full Version : Websites For Killing Time

So, this afternoon I had some free time and an unlimited Internet connection, and I found myself browsing through the same sites I seem to visit on a regular basis.

This gave me the idea for a new thread: What are the non-football related, work-permissible (i.e. no porn sites) websites that you visit regularly?

Anything that is updated somewhat regularly and contains content you find interesting would be fair game here, the idea being that the rest of us could give it a try to see if we might also enjoy it. Could be politics, blogs, games, humor, pretty much anything of interest.

I used to go on there quite a bit. I think I even have a login. But eventually the stupid 'first' posts just drove me up the wall.

I obviously spend a lot of time on this and other football-related sites, but when I'm not looking at them I check:

Some of you may know this one. Always makes me laugh - basic idea is that the guy collects weird news stories from all over the world and compiles them into one neat site to read.

From this week's edition, under the headline "Can't Possibly Be True":
Two Park Vista High School girls who admitted that they swiped money off the table of a Girl Scout selling cookies at a supermarket in Boynton Beach, Fla., in January told WPBF-TV later that they had no remorse. Said one (on camera): "We went through all that effort to get (the money). We got all these charges (against us), and we had to give the money back. I'm kind of pissed." Added the other, "I'm not sorry. I'm just pissed that I got caught." The victim's mother said that the girls returned to the supermarket the next day and taunted the little girl. [WPBF-TV (West Palm Beach), 2-1-08]

Brilliant!

This one may have been posted here before; it's one of those addictive Java games that I used to be able to kill an hour or two playing, although now the novelty has worn off some.

http://www.slate.com/ (http://www.slate.com/)
This is one of my favorite all-around sites for interesting articles. The politics stuff is mostly American, but they have a lot of other interesting topics as well, and the writing is excellent.

Any other suggestions?

They're still doing that sadly.Hope it doesn't catch on here.
AskMen.com is another OK site.

What's the first post thing about then??.

That's when geeks sit at their computer all day waitng for a fresh story to break, then not even reading the article they rush to be the first talkbacker to respond to it, writing said word and nothing else.

What's the first post thing about then??.

Unbelievably, posters take great thrill from being the first to post on a movie review thread. They simply post the word 'first' if they are indeed the first to post a response. It's fucking annoying.

or

what he said.

Got halfway through it before I had to find an online walkthrough. Stupid duck disguised as a rabbit - I don't think I'd have figured that out in a million years.
