i bought one on eBay tonight and think i paid over the top
I had set a limit of 140 euro but got caught up and paid an extra 45 on top
Only want to use it for internet and movies /online and emailing. The desktop does everything else i want.

Make my day and tell me how much too much i paid
Would upgrading specs be a further waste of cash
didn't want to pay out for new one and if all fails(and its in working order) I can probably stick my brother in law with it for near enough what i paid

Thats not a bad price. The spec is awful but for what you want to do it will be fine. Seeing as you got a WLAN card, docking stations and a working battery you've a got a reasonable deal. I've seen those knocking about for £120 without docking stations or the WLAN but with bigger HD's (40Gb). Don't bother upgrading if its only email and internet that your using it for.

Are you sure it works?

Christ, we throw P3's away at work. :o

That is a pretty crappy spec, but as Vin says, if it's just for email, MS office work then it's fine i guess.

Lads, so close to buying this last night, what do you reckon? Only using it for standard surfing/office/DVDs, NO GAMING!

guess I wont know that until I try to fire it up...by which time it will be too late, have been trying to get my hands on a small used laptop for a while and kinda caught caught up in the auction at the end as it was a few mins from closing .
Thanks for the advice ...if it works as described I wont be too worried esp if I didn't pay way over the odds and I know someone who might take it off me at no loss. Someone here mentioned that the screen is small, would it be smaller than an average portable dvd player ?

vin

Portable DVD player screen are usually between 7.5" and 9". The bigger portables are 12"

I would go for this - better spec for about £10more. Including bluetooth and card readers

http://www.ebuyer.com/product/140189

Free delivery as well. Whereas I believe laptopsdirect charge about a tenner

That has to be a mistake. I did notice that but I doubt they would ship out laptops with no cpu or RAM?? Surely that would make it a box of spare parts? Ebuyer are very good - send them an email or call them to confirm.

Also if you read the 12 or so reviews - each person has given it 5 stars. I think it is a typo

I have a couple of HP's and they've been fine. As with most laptops they come with a lot of pre-installed software which you should just delete. For work I'm using a low spec HP530, removed Vista and installed XP and it works fine. A little slow down with multi applications open but that's probably as it only has 512MB RAM.

i'm trying to get a laptop working for the kids that was being thrown away at work. Can I put the hard drive in a caddy and then format it and install an OS through a second PC? It's an old dell latitude but that shouldn't really be relevant, should it?

Cheers Vin, See I'd like to continue using XP but I'd have to buy that obviously which would cost a fair whack I hear!?

Not really - you should know where to look. I guess Vista is inevitable though. I have used it a couple of times and absolutely loathe it.

Also swapping from Vista to XP causes SATA driver issues. But I have a solution for that now.

It's all been sent anyway. Should be fine. F*ck it, they can rob my identity, they'll just inherit a huge credit card bill :D

Thanks for the recommendation on that laptop Vin, I'm looking forward to it! You'll be hard pushed to find a decent spec laptop below £300!!
