2 computer questions - Help Please

Would anybody know the answer to these questions? I'd be very grateful!

The scenario is that i'm looking at upgrading my laptop but i'm unsure how to transfer files from the old 1 to the new one.

1 - Is there a way of transferring my itunes onto the new one?

2 - I have a photo album/file on there too, whats the best way of transferring that, and also storing it in case anything ever went wrong with the computer?

An external hard drive would be your best bet for that volume of data.

You can get 200GB plus for around £80.00 last time I looked.

For question 2: You could burn the images onto a cd etc and transfer across to your new pc. Also the cds could then act as a back up. Or you could buy a n external hard-drive and back up to that (as already suggested)

How are you planning on moving all your other files across? Are you moving from XP to VISTA operating system?

What? Who? Why? Where? When? I'm a complete computer thicky, i dig the idea about burning the photos onto a cd though. I've not actually bought the new laptop yet, i just want to get a bit of advice up front so i know what to maybe look out for and if its gonna take days to transfer my itunes over?

Depending on how many tunes you have it could take a couple of hours

Regarding the itunes question. If you have all the tracks on your ipod then it's simply a case of connecting up the ipod to the new machine and using SharePod - http://www.sturm.net.nz/website.php?Section=iPod+Programs&Page=SharePod

it's free and will extract tunes from Ipod to hard disk.

if you haven't got all the tunes on an ipod then a USB disc is the easiest way. Even a reasonably sized memory stick could do it. Depends on how many tracks obviously. Just means a few copy/paste operations though.
