Why did we feel the need to name the events from that day 7/7 (apart from the obvious)?
I was watching Panorama last night and it got me thinking.....the Kings Cross disaster, the Lockerbie bombing, the Bradford City fire, the Hillsborough disaster, I could go on.....but since when did we have to go all American and start numbering our disasters?
Is this a Sky thing? An English thing? or just plain simple dumbing-down?

I suppose theres a bit of all theose points involved....
but seeing as most of our news is now bite-sized....
It's simply quicker to say 'the events of 7/7'
than
The Al-Queda-influenced London Tube & Bus Bombings

I tend to refer it as "April 15th" for some reason. 7/7 is catchy, I suppose.

Fair point i guess.
Prince, I'm sure the Bradford lads also have their chosen term for the terrible events that happened at VP too. I was referring more to the media than those actually involved directly.

It's all down to 24hr jazzed up news channels. I tried watching Fox news the other day, it was painful.

It should rightly have been called The London Bombings
Much more powerful image, less superficial (which I think 7/7 infers), it would resonate as a tragic day but where we all stood strong.

Not really specific enough. London has had its fair share of bombings.

I have to admit I thought of this aswell.Although I didn't mention as I thought I was the only one.
A bit off the subject I know, but ITV did start calling 12:30am "midnight thirty five",which makes me cringe.
It's Americanisation of everything which is something I'm strongly against.Like how most things software based ask you to select either of the lauguages "English" or "American English",but this is for another thread.
