not long a go an american poster (StevieG LFC i think) was doing a similarity with his favorite baseball team and Liverpool. i thought of taking up this idea with doing a similarity with my hometown Maltese team, Valletta, and my favorite forgeign team, Liverpool. i came up with these.

Both one of the most historic teams in their respective countries.

both teams waiting for their 19th league title after not having won one for a long time.

both have are considered the best supporters in their country (in proportion to size of course :D)

both have their Captains and their best players born and bred from the City the team is from, Steven Gerrard and Gilbert Agius. incidentally both are considered as one of their country's best players. both also play in the same position. both have also played for their clubs all their career (except a 6 month stay with Pisa in Italy for Gilbert).

both have 2 fierce rivals, Man Utd and Everton for Liverpool. Floriana (as we call them, tapit taghna (our carpet in english becoause they are right in front of the City) or Moffa (mould in english for their green kits)) and Birkirkara (as we call the Bikixmara (literal translation - river of tears)).

both have You'll Never Walk Alone as their anthem (well second anthem for Valletta, for this we have to thank Liverpool :) ).

both play their official anthems before matches and right before the end of matches ('YNWA' for Liverpool and 'Forza Valletta City' for Valletta).

both won their domestic cup (their country's version of the FA Cup) for the first time in the 60s

both do well in Europe, particularly the Champions League with Liverpool winning it 5 times and Valletta equaling a Maltese record of making it to the 2nd Qualifying Round :D and making it a maltese record of participating in European Competition for 13 consecutive times (however no Europe for Valletta this season or next season :( ).

both have had takeovers of some sort during the last year. George Gillett and Tom Hicks for Liverpool, Victor Sciriha for Valletta.

both teams colours are red and white (red being away and white home for Valletta however and vice versa for Liverpool). in the past both teams used to play in blue also (unless i am much mistaken about Liverpool).

that is all i have been able to remember for now i will come back when i remember more :) .

what do you think?
