View Full Version : Bellamy to West Ham, Cisse to Marseille

...both for £8m. Confirmed by Rafa.
So that's £16m recouped, plus £4m (or thereabouts) from the Garcia sale. So now either we still have a massive transfer budget or the new owners have been a bit sneaky and paid £20m for Torres without actually spending any money.
About the actual sales - I still think Cisse could have done a job foraas, against weaker, 10-men-behind-the-ball teams especially, but he and Rafa never really thought along the same lines, it seems. Bellamy was good but not good enough. An adequate stop-gap anyway.

Got rid of two players who were decent but not top quality.
Bellamy has been replaced by Torres, Cisse wasn't here so doesn't need replacing. Any new signings will hopefully strengthen the team.

If those deals go through that's a great bit of business. It remains to be seen whether Voronin will be a better option than Bellamy though...
Hopefully it'll mean that we've got cash to spend on one or two more top class wide players.

Shows you how bad things have become when we're doing cartwheels for only taking a 50% hit on a player.
Going through with the Cisse deal on the say-so of a manager we were about to sack still stinks. Obviously two broken legs didn't help.
Even paying the fine on a reneged deal wouldn't have cost so much, surely?

I remember Parry saying something at the time about how he didn't see any reason why we shouldn't still go through with the deal. Erm.... I can Rick. How about asking the new manager whether he wants £14 million of his transfer budget spent for him?
Still, could have been a lot of worse: recouping £8 million isn't too bad in the circumstances. Have we actually made a £2 million profit on Bellamy as well?

If he really wants Benayoun we might be a little 'relaxed' about Bellamy's pay-off, which is fair enough as he wasn't exactly 'doing a Barton' for a move was he?
Makes me a little more convinced that another big signing is on the cards.

Not just you mate. I've never believed all the bad publicity he's got, and thought Rafa used him perhaps too infrequently last year (rotation again!)
Maybe he wasn't of the quality we require, but I never felt he got a fair crack of the whip. He was substituted far too early at home to Man Utd for example and I know from mates in Cardiff that he's a dyed in the wool lifelong Red.

like my players to run for 90 and bellamy did that for us in my opinion

Selling him for £8m now is a fantastic deal. I don't think he's worth anywhere near that much.
The previousl deal was a shambles, agreed.

Not sad to see him go at all really. The fact that we've actually made some money selling him is a bonus.
He did give a lot and put in the effort but that never made anyone world class on its own. To be honest if we're to be up there competing, we need better than Craig Bellamy.

A little. The two games which make me think he could have been good enough were United (where he was one of the few players this year to have ruffled Vidic's feathers) and Barcelona away.

So am I. Still not a good enough reason to get paid £40k a week to play for the club. He's a toe rag and we're better off with him out of the club. He caused trouble in the one season he was with us and would definitely cause more. How long before he is in trouble at West Ham? 2, 3 weeks?

Oh come on. How do you know exactly what trouble he caused and that he's a 'toe rag'?, oh yeah, you're a voracious reader of the tabloids aren't you? And bringing his obscene wages into it is just fucking stupid.

Yep, jury's still out for me, they haven't made good on their promises yet.

Must admit, I'm with Evs on this one, I don't hink Bellamy was as bad as he was painted, do think he was treated a bit shitty to be honest, and I reckon he could well have done a job for us in Athens, the game was crying out for smoeone like him to run at the defence and out the shits up them.
Still, we'll never know now

I was merely pointing out that him being a Liverpool fan isn’t a good enough reason to keep him.
You don’t need to read the tabloids to here of what trouble he gets into. How many clubs has he been at in his career? 7 or 8. That’s quite a lot for a 27 year old. I wonder why they keep on selling him?

Doesn't really matter if he's a knobhead or not...he came to Anfield and gave his best, scoring some important goals in the process, which is good enough for me. The fact of the matter is he's just not good enough.

No, but perhaps it explains why he continually ran his polyester socks off for us.
Maybe he has strong opinions on the game and doesn't suffer fools gladly? Didn't Riise get into trouble with Carew in a Norway training camp? Maybe we should sell every player that sends 'abusive' text messages as well ?

Hmmm, a fan he may be but that's not stopping Bellamy from trying to get a payout from the club before he goes to WHU.
From the timesonline:
"Bellamy believes that he is entitled to a payoff given that he did not ask for a transfer. "
This is holding up the deal.
I wonder what he's asking for exactly? Does he feel the remainder of his contract should be paid to him due to his departure after just one year?
I think this is piss-artistry of the highest order. He may be fed-up having to leave the club without showing his true worth (or having had the chance to :- discuss), but will money change that? Nope. He'll be getting fantastic money at West Ham - why bother with this pointless exercise?

How many players wouldn't hold out for every penny though? Unfortunately it's a sign of the times and after all he didn't ask to go.

He's entitled to the money Dev. It was part of the contract that the club offered him to sign. The 'hasn't he got enough money' line is irrelevant.

I feel a little bad for him, to be honest. He joined the club of his dreams, ran his socks off in every game he played (despite struggling early on, seemingly with the pressure of the trial) but is now being shipped out before he's really had a chance to show what he's capable of.

The 'golf club' story appeared in several broadsheets and has just appeared, yet again, in Gerrard's updated autobiography. Wonder if Craig will sue all these defamers?
