I have been pondering this for a while now. Since the end of the season where everyone seems to be excited at the "untold riches" that Gillet and Hicks were going to splash out. Almost everyone I have met, or read posts both here and the main forum are crying out "sign this guy or that guy" and invariably the standard Youtube video of whoever would pop out reinforcing the claim that Liverpool should sign this player or that.
While I understand and fully agree that the main criteria of signing ANYBODY would be based on ability, but what are the secondary criteria?
I guess I am a romantic and desire for us to sign players actually wanting to play for us (irregardless of whether they were lifelong fans or otherwise)... but some of the players bandied around seems a bit "interesting"
Tevez, Malouda and some others are all brilliant players in some way or another. BUT if they are going to "prostitute" themselves to ANY club that is willing to listen and willing to stump up ridiculous amounts of money for them, do we really want them in our team? Torres is a breath of fresh air... willing to take a pay cut to come to us... and none of that I grew up supporting Liverpool then waiting to stab us in the back rubbish. It just goes to show that we signed someone who really wants to play for us and not your typical mercenary.
So I would really love to hear your opinions on what kind of criteria should we be setting in terms of the players we sign.
