Best moment of the series, for me, when it's revealed that Capt. Jack is the Face of Boe...
Tear in the eye moment for me... :)

Quick question. Although he can still age, why is he immortal?

Interesting how the time cycles are completed like that. I am a fan of Dr.Who's.
By the way, where were all the ray guns in the year 100 trillion? Why have we still got machine guns?

Good link to the face of Bo/Boe though

Why bother ageing the Doctor? Why bother re-ageing him? Just because they've got CGI?

Using arch angel - fine. Everyone saying the word Doctor so he could reverse several hundred years of aging and turn into an angel - irrespective of the satellite system I thought that was a bit thin.

He looked like Dobby the House-Elf. Pretty poor really. And as you say, why bother? Its not like the plot was dependent on it.

I thought Tate was quite good. When Billie Piper was announced as the assistant I had visions of her being crap. Turns out she was one of the best, so I think it's fair to say you can't really tell how good they will be until we see the results.
However, I did read on another site that there was no truth to the Kylie rumours which might make you feel a little better :)

I heard they’d signed up Fiona Phillips as a new assistant and her son as a sort of mini-assistant.

I see no reason why I should drop the history of the programme just so I can fit in with the new crowd who only like it because football's the new thing. Er, Dr Who probably. The sort of people who watch Soccer A.M., er, Dr Who Confidential and think that this is the way to act these days. Keep your Rose and give me Liz Shaw any day. Okay, she might not be as photogenic as your new companions but at least she stood by her Time Lord. What happened to Doc loyalty? This is where the game is going wrong these days. Sarah Jane Smith got Pertwee through his regeneration and then stood by Tom for an additional three years, not like Morientes who sodded off after less than two just because he was being kicked (by a Sontaran).
Dr Who wools are the scourge of the galaxy. I blame Sky and Richard Keys (see Morbius).

SATURDAY 14th
An Unearthly Child (Pilot): 1963 (William Hartnell)
8am-8.35am
We could have kicked off our Doctor Who weekend with An Unearthly Child, the very first story which hit Britain's screens back in 1963. But we're going one better and showing the rarely-seen pilot version of the story, which served as the template for the "official" version that was later filmed and ultimately broadcast. It makes for fascinating viewing, with the First Doctor an even more mysterious and calculating figure than he would be in the official version. This is one no Whovian should miss.
SATURDAY 14th
The Chase (Eps 1 & 5): 1965 (William Hartnell)
8.35am-9.40am
Some Doctor Who stories are deep and meaningful, while others are sheer fun. The Chase falls firmly in the latter category, following the First Doctor and his companions as they're pursued through time and space by a gang of Daleks. It's a rollicking romp from one destination to another, with the Doctor stopping off on the Empire State Building and the Marie Celeste along the way (it's also revealed that it was the sudden appearance of the Daleks that led to the Marie Celeste being deserted by its crew).
SATURDAY 14th
Inferno (Eps 1 & 7): 1970 (Jon Pertwee)
9.40am-10.40am
The Tenth Doctor may have entered a parallel universe to face the Cybermen, but it was his Third incarnation who did the whole "alternative Earth" thing first with this classic story. In this more sinister version of our world, the Doctor finds Britain in the grip of a fascist government, and finds himself battling an evil version of his old friend Brigadier Lethbridge-Stewart. You can tell he's nasty because he wears an eye patch. Can the Doctor sort it all out and get back to the "real" world? You bet he can.
SATURDAY 14th
The Caves of Androzani (Full Story): 1984 (Peter Davison)
10.40am-12.40am
The Caves of Androzani is regarded by many as the greatest Doctor Who story of all – and it's not hard to see why. It's an epic tale of revenge, love and redemption, with the Doctor being imprisoned by a tormented madman who has fallen in love with his companion Peri. A sort of sci-fi Phantom of the Opera, it also has Peter Davison putting in his most intense and passionate performance as the Fifth Doctor. The icing on the cake comes at the very end, when he regenerates dramatically into his Sixth incarnation. There won't be a dry eye in the house…
SATURDAY 14th
The Curse of Fenric (Full Story): 1989 (Sylvester McCoy)
12.40am-2.30pm
The Seventh Doctor was a bit of a comedy figure when he first showed up, but by the Curse of Fenric he was a darker and more interesting character – and this story is often cited as the best of his tenure. Set during World War Two, it sees the Doctor come up against an ancient evil force known as Fenric – and battle some rather vicious vampires into the bargain. The Doctor himself has never been more inscrutable, drawing his own secret plans and using his own companion Ace as a pawn in a deadly game against his devious foe.
SATURDAY 14th
The Three Doctors (Full Story): 1972/73 (Hartnell, Troughton and Pertwee)
2.30pm-4.25pm
The first story to team up different incarnations of the Time Lord, this nostalgia-fest brings together Doctors one, two and three to counter the schemes of Omega – an ancient figure who first pioneered time travel. Unfortunately, Omega's achievements rather went to his head, and he's now a raving megalomaniac (when told that he's the Third Doctor's childhood hero, Omega responds "A hero? I should have been a god!"). The Doctors must band together to fight him – but can the Second and Third Doctors stop their bickering first?
SATURDAY 14th
The Deadly Assassin (Full Story): 1976 (Tom Baker)
4.25pm-6pm
Here's a landmark story, for a number of reasons. First, it's the only one to date which features a companion-free Doctor (which possibly explains why he mutters to himself more than usual). Furthermore, it was the first story to reveal the ins and outs of Time Lord culture, following the Doctor as he investigates a murder on his home planet Gallifrey. And third… well, it's really just a cracking romp, with Tom Baker at his eccentric, booming best, and a particularly hideous incarnation of the Master skulking around like Skeletor's uglier brother. Vintage stuff.
SATURDAY 14th
Rose: 2005 (Christopher Eccleston)
6pm-7pm
Naysayers scoffed when the BBC announced the return of Doctor Who. Surely modern audiences wouldn't take to the quirky old character? But take to him they did, with millions tuning in to see Christopher Eccleston as the tough, flippant Ninth Doctor. The bad guys here are the Autons – plastic aliens first encountered by Pertwee's Doctor, but now on the loose again in London. And an extra treat is the eponymous character, Rose. Billie Piper certainly stunned the critics with her superb performance as the brave (and understandably befuddled) companion.
SATURDAY 14th
The Empty Child: 2005 (Christopher Eccleston)
7pm-8pm
It's never good when you find yourself stalked by a strange child with a gas mark for a face. It's even worse if the child is fond of saying "Are you my mummy?" in a haunting high-pitched voice. And it's really bad if this happens as bombs rain down around you. Unfortunately, it's just the scenario the Ninth Doctor and Rose must deal with in this gripping story set during the World War Two Blitz. Luckily they get some help in the form of a strapping, laughing, sexually ambiguous hunk of a man. The name's Captain Jack Harkness, ladies (and gentlemen).
SATURDAY 14th
The Doctor Dances: 2005 (Christopher Eccleston)
8pm-9pm
The second part of the story begun in The Empty Child, this is one of the most fiendishly enjoyable of all the Ninth Doctor's adventures. The Time Lord, Rose and Captain Jack race around a war-torn landscape to sort out an alien menace, but still find time to flirt and trade jibes along the way (Captain Jack: "Who has a sonic screwdriver? Who looks at a screwdriver and thinks, 'Oooh, this could be a little more sonic'?") Who'd have thought facing certain death at the
SUNDAY 15th
The Chase (Ep 5): 1965 (William Hartnell)
8am-8.30am
Another chance to see the final instalment of this classic First Doctor story. SUNDAY 15th
The Two Doctors (Full Story): 1985 (Troughton and Baker)
8.30am-11.20am
First there was The Three Doctors, then the Five Doctors, and then came the Two Doctors – possibly the most entertaining of the "reunion" stories. This time round it's Patrick Troughton's playful Second Doctor paired up with Colin Baker's marvellously pompous Sixth, and the story sees them up against the potato-headed Sontarans. Much of it was shot in Spain, giving the story an exotic flavour, and fans of Patrick Troughton will love him here, giving his final performance as the Chaplin-like Second Doctor. SUNDAY 15th
Attack of the Cybermen (Full Story): 1985 (Colin Baker)
11.20am-1.15pm
David Tennant's Doctor dealt with a breed of Cybermen created by a mad scientist on an alternative Earth. But here are the original Cybermen, who evolved on the planet Mondas and set out to conquer the stars. The Sixth Doctor has his work cut out for him when he finds the big, shiny baddies stalking the sewers of London, but also finds time to repair the TARDIS chamelon circuit – meaning it can at last assume exciting new forms. Like a pipe organ. And a stove. Of course, in the end, it reverts back to its familiar police box guise - well, it just wouldn't be the same, would it?
SUNDAY 15th
Doctor Who - The Movie: 1996 (Paul McGann)
1.15pm-3pm
Paul McGann's one and only portrayal of the Eighth Doctor is fondly remembered by fans, and for good reason. In the space of one TV movie, as it were, he shows himself to be a spiffing Doctor, perfectly blending idealism with eccentricity. As a bonus we even get Sylvester McCoy reprising the Seventh Doctor, who gets shot after the TARDIS is forced to land in the States. Regenerating into his dashing Eighth self, the Doctor barely has time to get used to his new haircut before the Master rears his growling head. Let battle commence!
SUNDAY 15th
Rose: (Christopher Eccleston)
3pm-4pm
Another chance to catch the edition that marked the debut of Christopher Eccleston as the Ninth Doctor, helping Billie Piper escape from some murderous mannequins. Altogether now: fantastic!!
SUNDAY 15th
Parting of the Ways: 2005 (Christopher Eccleston)
4pm-5pm
Hankies at the ready, because this is the Ninth Doctor's final story. And he's got plenty on his plate, what with a massive Dalek army to deal with. The pesky pepperpots are out for blood, and let's not forget the super-duper Emperor Dalek, whose booming voice would put Tom Baker's expansive vocals to shame. This story is perhaps Eccleston's finest hour as the Doctor, just as Peter Davison's last story, The Caves of Androzani, featured his greatest performance. And then there's that climactic regeneration to look forward to…
SUNDAY 15th
New Earth: 2006 (David Tennant)
5pm-6pm
Let's face it: if you had a TARDIS, you'd want to show off, wouldn't you? And that's precisely what the Tenth Doctor does in this story, when he takes Rose all the way to the year five billion and twenty-three. Now that's what we call some serious time travel. Unfortunately, their little visit to "New Earth" is rather ruined by the appearance of their old foe Lady Cassandra, a woman who's had so much plastic surgery she's just a sheet of taut skin (or, as Rose once described her, a "bitchy trampoline"). The Ninth Doctor defeated her the first time round, but can the Tenth follow suit? SUNDAY 15th
School Reunion: 2006 (David Tennant)
6pm-7pm
Younger fans of the series will enjoy this story for what it is: a quintessential goodies versus baddies tale set at a sinister high school. But old school fans will lap up the nostalgia, because it also features some old friends from the classic series: former companion Sarah Jane Smith (who was originally paired with the Jon Pertwee and Tom Baker Doctors) and the iconic robot dog K9. Naturally they're only too happy to help the Tenth Doctor defeat the villains of the piece, but there could be some handbags at the ready when Sarah Jane and Rose meet. Ladies, behave!
SUNDAY 15th
Army of Ghosts: 2006 (David Tennant)
7pm-8pm
Freema Agyeman is currently playing the Doctor's assistant Martha Jones. But did you know she originally featured in the series as a completely different character? Here she is in her pre-Martha days, in a titanic story that also introduces us to the Torchwood Institute, set up to keep tabs on alien activity on Earth. But how will they cope when an army of murderous Cybermen arrive to cause havoc? And is time almost up for the Tenth Doctor and Rose?
SUNDAY 15th
Doomsday: 2006 (David Tennant)
8pm-9pm
It’s bad enough when you've got Cybermen marching all over the place, killing everything. But it's just that little bit worse when you've got a bunch of Daleks to deal with too, as the Tenth Doctor discovers in this concluding part to Army of Ghosts. This is one of the most action-packed stories in the history of the series, but it's also one of the most poignant – as it heralds the end of the relationship between the Doctor and Rose. Still, at least they get to say goodbye while saving the Earth.
The Prince

Congrats to anyone who gets through The Chase without wincing. It's a bit of a romp but it's time you'll never get back. Attack of the Cybermen, however, is simply atrocious.
Well done for The Deadly Assassin and The Caves of Androzani though. They good.
