I just heard the new Smashing Pumpkins album and wanted to say how glad I am they're back. They've even left behind the bit of pretentiousness they were dabbling with before they split.

Very good album on first impressions. If you like that sort of thing of course.

Anyone else heard it yet? I'd like to see what anyone else thinks.

Heard the single on 6 music yesterday - Agree it does sound good.
Is it the original line up? I heard when they split it was fairly accrimonius ??!!

James Iha and D'arcy Wretsky aren't involved. Just Billy Corgan and Jimmy Chamberlain, who was once sacked by Corgan for his heroin use, remain.

From Wikipedia:

"The Smashing Pumpkins performed live for the first time since 2000 on May 22, 2007 in Paris, France. There, the band unveiled new members Jeff Schroeder and Ginger Reyes, who took over second guitarist and bassist duties, respectively."

So in reality the 2 interesting members aren't there - Ahh Ok so it is basically like a new band with the same name.

Darcy is still hot by the way ;)

Just been reading the glastonbury nme and I`m sure it looks like its just Billy and some other faceless musos bit like Axl coming back with Guns and Roses by himself and some session players so he can play the old back catalogue, still they were good back in the day, 1979 was a top top tune in my `youth`.

Thats the problem with comebacks,no matter what you always think "youre only doing it for the money" but its maybe unfair on some bands who are genuinley in it for the fans. I would put pumpkins in this bracket whereas the police, the eagles, queen etc I think they are blatently doing it for the money. I love queen but what is the point in them carrying on without one of the most promenent frontmen ever. Ill think the same about zeppelin although I shall still be putting my money up if the reform rumours are true (plant has denied them). The verve have got back together too, good band and great live.
