what are peoples views on the smoking ban??? as a smoker myself i think is a good thing as this would help me stop smoking

the main reason for this thread is can people still walk in streets and smoke??? i always assumed we couldnt but few people told me today that if we are walking in the streets we are able to smoke.

does anyone know if this is true???

That's OK, it's just enclosed public spaces (e.g. bars, cafés, restaurants, offices, etc.)

I think it's a good idea - I've just come home stinking of smoke (as a non-smoker) hopefully for the last time.

You can smoke in any place that isn't more than 60% enclosed so walking down the street smoking is fine, you will not be allowed to smoke inside any sports grounds as they are classified as enclosed because of the roofs.

I'm happy with the smoking ban.
Bars etc. are a much better without the smoke.

It's been in Northern Ireland for a month or 2 now.

As a non-smoker I think its great as I am now cant stand people smoking by me.

I have given up for 6 months, but even when I was a smoker i still thought it was a great idea as I can now go out and not come home stinking of ciggies.

I think it would be in everyones best interests if everyone gave up smoking. people think that they cant give up because they are too addicted but believe me I smoked 20 a day for about 10 years and i didnt even want to give up, I loved smoking, so I think if people actually want to give up it would probably be easier for them as long as they got help, the patches worked a treat for me.

I hated that...Whenever we came back from the pub we would have to wash our clothes.

Is this a smoking ban in Finland yet?

yeah it came in 1st june in finland, so it will be good when I go over there in a couple of weeks, I have found it difficult to be in pubs since giving up, firstly for the temptation and then more recently because I cant stand the smoke anymore.

About feckin time.

The only downside is that if there a load of smokers just by the door you still get that "smoky feeling" and what's worse I'm sure last night two girls purposefully gave it the full gun in exhaling smoke in my general direction as I entered a pub last night

Its been in Ireland a while now and everyone smokers and non-smokers seem to be for it. It hasn't stopped me from smoking but i have cut down a lot when i'm out in a pub.

Also you get to meet more people out having a smoke than you would if sitting in a pub smoking.

The only big drawback from this is the smell in nightclubs now. Before smoke used to cover it up but now the smell of feet and sweat is nearly unbearable.

I hate smoke and tend to hate people for smoking around me. I get cross when people light up and then stick the cigarette at arms length from their own face but don't care that the smoke is blowing into mine.

I get annoyed when I go to the pub with my wife's step father and then come out stinking of the smell (although this is due to a ventilation system the pub had fitted which doesn't actually do as good a job as the now nailed shut windows)

I get cross when I see people smoking their cigarettes in a playground that's got no smoking signs plastered all over the place and then have the stupidity to walk over to the children and smoke their cigarettes amongst them.

I get cross when people litter the roads with their butt ends and get annoyed when they throw away lighted ones that hit my car.

I get annoyed when I go to Anfield and two guys that sit near me don't have the courtesy to wait until half time to light up and are quite happy to watch their ash blow over the people in front of them.

I could go on. All in all I say the smoking ban is the first step in the right direction and, as you might expect, I'm very pleased. :)

We could always just ban noses. They don't serve much purpose in life these days unless you have a gas leak or wear spectacles.

Poor old Phil Thompson.

I am all for the ban. I am one of the lucky ones that have never had one cigarette. Reason is I was put off when I was 15. I did my work experience in a Food Research lab and on my first day went to see a scientist studying cancer. He showed me a 25 year old man's lung, who died of lung cancer. He had been smoking for ~12 years and I thought it was a lump of charcoal!! Seriously I did! That would make a great anti smoking advert for tv, it worked for me 100%.
If you stand next to a smoker, for every 5 cigarettes they smoke you have smoked 1!! That is not fair, in my book!!
My eldest son has asthma, so it's all the more important to know that pubs and other places will be smoke free from now on, unless this idiot, sorry owner of a lap dancing club, gets his way, when he challenges the ban in court!!
I am married, but the biggest turn off for me is a nice looking girl, with a cigarette in the corner of her gob, thinking she is it!! Sorry if that is sexist, but so true! It doesn't help if she is drunk as well! I see it at my son's secondary school, when I drop him off in the morning. 15-16 year old's puffing away, looking like they are the greatest things on the planet! They're not, believe me.

Sorry, sore subject, rant over!!:D

same way here in vegas now except for the casinos...Ive been a non smoker now for almost 4 months and I must add that the ban out here had alot to do with it. Ciggs are so expensive out there, last time I was there they must have been about 8 dollars on my end after exchange rate, thats 2 packs here. I notice how much I stay away from casinos, bars in casinos, and nightclubs in casinos as I really have taken a dislike to the smell. I wont even talk to women who smoke, like I want to play sucky face with that stanky mouth.

Where did you get ur figures from? How do you value death? Shall we take taxes from drug dealers too and see what the figures work out?

I was just in Ireland, Wales and England and I have to say that it was nice not having my asthma aggravted by smokers. Hopefully Germany will fall in line next.
