Tattoo Jacks on West Derby Road, Tuebrook. It's upstairs, directly opposite the Police Station. Had one done there 16 years ago, still looks good, got the five stars done last year. Jack himself is funny as fuck too. Has lots of different designs or you can take your own.

A friend of mine told me that he's going to get a tattoo done in the near future. He wants to get some Egyptian symbol for the sun rising on his leg. It looks more like a stick figure drawing than the sun rising. He wants to get it to symbolize that each day is a new beginning. Doesn't suit me, but to each his own.

He'd like to get one but he's been begging me to come along and get something done myself. For most of my life I never thought that I'd ever think of getting a tattoo. I told him the only thing I'd ever consider getting done is a Liverbird one. I'm a Yankee fan and I follow them with a great passion but I'd never consider getting their logo tattooed on me. My love of Liverpool FC is something completely different, its almost like a relgion.

Here's the design I came up with though I think its a little too busy looking. Might cost a lot too. Keep in mind it will be outlined also.

I brought up that my friend was going to get one to my father. He told me that my friend must be out of his mind. I next explained to him that I was contempating getting one myself. He kept shaking his head and said "I don't get it." That's the way I used to feel. I used to think that only punkers, skinheads and bikers have tattoos.

Might actually be better in black & white.

Oh dear..just looking at the quality of my old skool tat's !
Think they would qualify as outsider art now. They make Amy Winehouse's look like Picasso's.
Here's a little story..
Got three when i was 17 i'm 39 now..in a shitty hut in Chester near Northgate Arena. .."What can I get done for a fiver mate?"
My Mate who was a massive Utd fan had a red devil & passed out.;)
Oh & had one in Blackpool too...everyone had them when I was growing up in sunny Northwich.
In fact I worked in a place that had a shed in a yard out the back & the bloke downstairs
decided to become a tattoo "Artist" and use said shed as his studio, no proper equipment, lighting, hygine, new needles,talent.. oh dear god he used to practice on this one lad..
He was like the Mulletmaster in NeverOffside's bad record sleeve thread. I would come out for my dinner break & have a fag in the yard to witness some of the most astoundingly poor tattoos ever seen by man.
I recall one Butterfly he did on this lad's back..well he said it was a Butterfly.
It looked like it had been done whist he was on those mad stairs you get in a haunted house that violently shake up & down.
It looked like a giant diseased horseshoe crab in a kwik Save bag. It was breathtaking. I said it looked ace & he said " Yeah ..Cheers,... Still having problems with my outlines"
Another burnt into my retinas was a mournful portrait of a girl on a lad's arm..one eye was too high. Mindblowing.
By then I realised my tat's were not as bad as they could have been.
Must admit that having three of them on my lower arms was a massive error.
You do get judged instantly if tat's are on show & that's something to be aware of..and hard to live with sometimes.
I was ashamed of my shit tattoos all my life & only in the last couple of years
have not bothered about them and accepted them as part of me & my youth.
In summing up I reckon that if you do have a tattoo it's best at the top of your arm so you do have the option to cover up.

Just don't get them done in a shed.

Thanks for the info. Kinda makes me weigh the pros and crons of the whole thing and second guess a little. I'm a clean cut guy and I don't want a tattoo to ruin my image. Cops can pick you out, elderly people with think you're a troublemaker, etc.
