Despite all the rumours surrounding our club and other clubs transfer targets, what has surprised me is the complete lack of actual transfers completed to date.

I appreciate the World Cup has impacted events to date, but I am still somewhat amazed more deals haven't actually been completed.

The pre-season friendlies have begun in earnest and ours starts on Saturday, when you consider the timeframe of players returning from Word Cup duty and the start of the season. There isn't an awful lot of time to finalise transfers in and out, which we all know always takes longer than everybody would like.

I find it puzzling that we allow players to go on holiday without first clarifying their commitment to the club, surely time is of the essence and early clarification allows the club to open negotiations with their potential suitors and enable us to identify suitable replacements and additions where funds allow.

Perhaps I am just being naive, but it just seems so unprofessional, ill-advised and downright bad practice to allow this situation to simply drag on.

Alot of clubs are out of the market due to funding issues. Its not just us in financial trouble.

David Silva to Man City for £26 million !!!

What deals there will be will start happening now - just dont think we will be involved in many.

well, I'm not sure if you're referring in general or you're talking about our situation. but as far as we're concerned, one possible reason might be the fact we are on the verge of changing ownership. hopefully it might be a matter of weeks (at least if we're taking account the recent statements made by our current president). if this is so, it is normal to wait until that happens before making any radical decisions, especially in relation to our best players

another reason might be their sheer uncertainty. Gerrard would like to end his career here, but at the same time he knows that it is less likely he'll enjoy the expected success if he stays, as he's 30 now and we're in shambles. Torres loves the club and the fans, but he knows he's arguably the best striker in the world and yet, he won nothing since he came and things are not looking any brighter.

it is not easy to decide, as it can make or break their careers and lives. plus, it's also a matter of offers. they might like to go but the offers are not good enough

probably, the onle one I'm surprised about is mascherano.

not that I'm complaning no one else left the last few weeks

The transfer market is slow, for many reasons, (although this does not seem to affect the transfer rumour pages! they are full of it!), most deals seem to take forever to finalize (Joe Cole is still a free agent...), and so far the only deals that have gone through have been in the offing for weeks or months (Jovanovic, Benayoun)

But it's not just players but managers too, i thought getting a new manager was like walking through treacle but Fulham are still without a manager two weeks on...

Many clubs have only just started pre-season so are only just returning deciding their futures etc. The world cup has also been on so the players have been at that. It'll pick up towards the end of the window

Yeah it's the calm before the storm, once a few players move from club to club then they will need replacing so the whole merry go round will speed up, the market will explode into life with a few panic buys once the season kicks off!!!

We'll probably start seeing more activity once a club gets to sell a prized asset for funny money and uses the proceeds from that to strengthen their squad.

Exactly. If Milner leaves Villa for 25m they'll be after two or three. The money will move around the clubs.

I just dont want to see us miss out on someone because we dont get our finger out.

We're £14m in profit on transfers made in 2010. If insua goes we could be £20m in profit. Whaehey. In a nutshell no one apart from city has any ready cash. Even roman is tightening his belt.

Except for Torres, allegedly. Not sure what to believe here. Haven't been on the forums for ages, pains me to be back, pains me to be away. On the up and up, happy to say I will be leaving Poland at the end of the month for Italy... Finally moving back to a country with a bit of decent footie, Poland was rubbish for live games and rubbish for finding the prem on tv.

Best wishes to all the Reds out there and for a great season!

Theres still a month and a half left of the transfer windows. Most of the transfers I can remember seem to take place in July/August anyway.

The players are on holiday, or just getting back from them after the World Cup. The season finished, and they went straight to there country squads. They will be playing solidly from a few weeks until the end of next may so when else do you expect them to take holidays.

As someone else pointed out, lack of money all round, questions over ownership, new manager who has his own transfer targets. There are many many reasons why nothing is happening yet. With the exeption of the media trying to move torres to Man City or Chealsea, theres no talk of any other big players moving clubs this summer.

Villa went to Barce (who are now skint), Silva went to Man City and Fabregas may be going to the skint Barce. With the exception of one or two minor players moving, theres no talk of anything else. YET

Let the players get back to there clubs after their holidays, let them talk to their agents who in turn will be talking to various clubs and then we might start to see something more happen. But I dont think there will be any more major transfers this summer. The BIG players will stay where they are, because no1 can afford the transfer fees, which just leave squad bolstering squad players.

When is the deadline for registering players for the Europa league?
I know it's not of massive importance but it could hurry along a few transfers seeing as Torres is injured and Mascherano is likely to move.
